There are two autopatch repeaters in Calgary, VE6NOV (146.760 MHz -600 kHz) & VE6RY (147.270 MHz -600 kHz) VE6NOV is installed on the Rockyview Hospital in the southwest. VE6RY is on Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (S.A.I.T.) in the north centre of Calgary. Both autopatches work the same. Only 7-digit local phone calls are permitted. To make a regular call, dial 9, the phone number, and the * key, all in a single transmission. For example, 9 253 3092* all without releasing the PTT. To hang up, press the # key. The emergency autopatch has a 10 minute timer. The regular autopatches have a 3 minute timer. Both can be reset by entering *1 after the 30 second warning. VE6MX (146.730 MHz -600 kHz) VE6MX is installed on Tony VE6MX's tower in the south end of town, and dials through the club's phone. To make a call, press *, listen for a dial tone, then enter a 7-digit phone number. To hang up, press the # key.
Etiquette of using an autopatch. Listen on frequency for a minute to verify that the repeater is not in use. Then transmit and say something like "VE6xxx for the autopatch" then, without releasing the mic, key in the sequence to dial. After you hang up using the # key, say "VE6xxx clear of the autopatch". That's all there is to it! If you call one of the emergency services, when they answer, identify yourself with something like "This is amateur radio operator VE6xxx calling through a radio phone patch, over." then continue with your traffic. Don't forget to use "over" at the end of each transmission. This will help the answering person understand the circumstances of your call.
